A compliance peak within these normative values suggests a normal middle ear system. A peak outside of these limits may suggest one of several pathologies. The incidence and implications of positive middle ear pressure shown by tympanometry have been sparsely reported in the literature.

The incidence and implications of positive middle ear pressure shown by tympanometry have been sparsely reported in the literature. A series of 13 patients (16 ears) exhibited middle ear pressures that exceeded +49 mm H2O. Clinical, otoscopic, audiologic, and pathologic findings are reviewed. A large canal volume indicates that there may be a perforation of pressure equalizing tube in the tympanic membrane. B – Peak = This is the peak compliance of the tympanic membrane measured in cc. The y axis marks the level of compliance. Note that this tracing will measure compliance accurately up to 1.5 cc. The peak on the tympanogram represents the pressure at which the flow of sound energy is maximal.

The tympanometry result indicates; ear canal volume (cm3), the max pressure (daPa), and the peak compliance (ml). The test plays a crucial role in distinguishing between conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. And it also allows us to view the upper auditory pathways and the reflex contraction of the middle ear muscles.

When double peaks occurred, the peak admittance was obtained from the higher peak. The mean CAat the time of test was 3.9 weeks, and the mean GA at birth was 33 weeks (Table 1).

Tympanometric peak pressure

Middle ear pressure is noted in deca Pascals (daPa) as the width (range) of the peak on the horizontal axis of a tympanogram. Normal pressure measurements

Tympanometric peak pressure, also known as middle ear pressure, is the ear canal pressure at which the peak of the tympanogram occurs. (“peak”), which is dependent upon the middle ear pressure, and the middle ear compliance.

This is the pressure at which peak is located. These pressures read on A tympanometric pressure swallow test is proposed which can be used to assess Eustachian tube function behind an intact tympanic membrane.

Peak Ytm is defined as the acoustic admittance value at the lateral surface of the tympanic membrane referenced to the peak pressure of the tympanogram. An abnormally low Peak Ytm suggests the presence of otitis media with effusion.(6) TW is defined Predictive Accuracy of Wideband Absorbance at Ambient and Tympanometric Peak Pressure Conditions in Identifying Children with Surgically Confirmed Otitis Media with Effusion. It also measures any impedance to passage of sound energy, namely, middle Impedance testing is crucial in distinguishing a conductive loss from a sensorineural hearing loss. peak occurred during the tympanometric test. Stimulus tones of varying intensities at 500, 1000, 2000 or 4000 Hz are presented as flat tympanogram with no definite peak and negative air pressure. A resolving case or beginning case may produce a reduced peak in the presence of severe negative middle ear pressure.

This is used to estimate the middle-ear pressure. Tympanometry overestimates ear canal volume by as much as 24–39 % 12). Using descending sweeps and slower sweep speeds minimizes this effect. Tympanometric peak pressure (TTP) or middle ear pressure (MEP) is the ear canal pressure at which the peak of the tympanogram occurs (Margolis & Hunter, 2000). Static Compliance The tympanometry result indicates; ear canal volume (cm3), the max pressure (daPa), and the peak compliance (ml).
